Wisconsin Getaway Home
This getaway home in rural Wisconsin was designed to enhance the enjoyment of the owner’s 40 acre site while preparing it for their retirement. Located less than 90 minutes from the Twin Cities they can quickly leave their weekday jobs as big city college professors behind and make their way to their wooded retreat. As you arrive on a winding gravel drive the home reveals itself slowly at first by nestling itself into a south facing bluff. The home is located to take advantage of the panoramic views of the field to the south while shielding it from the harsh northwest winds. The wrap around porch is partially screened and maintains the connection to the outdoors welcoming everyone to stop and enjoy the view. The garage is visually detached but is connected by a tunnel for convenience and protection from the wind, rain, and snow. Wanting to make the most of every opportunity the owners set up a mill on the site so they could take the trees they removed because of construction to make the hardwood flooring used throughout the house.
